The Monona City Council adopted a revised ordinance regulating short-term rental (STR) properties on June 19, 2023. Read the ordinance here. Under the revised ordinance, anyone wishing to operate a Short Term Rental in Monona must now obtain a valid Short Term Rental permit before a property can be advertised or operated as a Short Term Rental. While the Ordinance specifies that the license year for short-term rentals is July 1-June 30, it grants owners/operators a 6-month period from the publication of the adopted Ordinance to become compliant and license their properties for this year.
All existing Short Term Rentals have until December 31, 2023 to obtain a valid permit for the period of July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024.
