Designed to meet the needs of the elderly and disabled as well as the general public, anyone can ride the handicapped-accessible Monona Lift bus on its six scheduled daily loops (four through Monona and downtown Madison, and two within Monona). If notified in advance, First Transit, the provider of transit services to Monona, will pick up those who can’t make it to a Monona Lift stop but can make it to a spot on the route. Elderly or disabled riders with special needs can prearrange to be picked up or dropped off within one-half mile of the route as it makes its regular journeys. Because of this potential to deviate from the route, all riders should call First Transit Services at (608) 845-8516 to let them know of their pick up spot.
Service hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am-3:15 pm. No service is available on holidays (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day). In addition, frail elderly may also request use of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) by calling (608) 238-7787.
Reservations should be made at least 24 hours in advance by calling (608) 845-8516 for service. Reservations are subject to availability. If you must cancel a ride, please call as soon as possible.
