City of Monona Commercial Sector Arial PhotoThe City of Monona has a robust commercial/business sector for a city of its size.  Rich with economic possibilities and public amenities, the city of Monona is home to roughly 8,000 residents.  With no additional land to annex, Monona is landlocked by Lake Monona and the City of Madison forcing the city to be creative with its space and planning strategy.

Today, Monona boasts to having over $25 million in development at the current time, and the City is thriving with new projects.  The East Broadway area is thriving with new projects.  Menards is currently completing an addition to and facade remodel of their buidling at Broadway and Copps Aveune.

Heritage of Monona Senior Housing Complex, located on Owen Road, opened its facilities in late 2009.  The complex includes 232 Units of Independent Living Space for Seniors, and they are currently beginning to plan for a second phase of development.

In addition to the above development, the City is undertaking a major reconstruction of its "Main Street," Monona Drive.  The project is a complete overhaul of the existing infrastructure and includes the replacement of all water and sewer mains, the undergrounding of utility lines, the addition of medians with turn lanes, sidewalks, and bike lanes, the replacement of all lighting, over 6,000 new plantings (including 245 new trees), and the paving of the entire road.  The project is scheduled to be completed in three phases.  Phase I, from Broadway to Nichols/Pflaum Road, was completed last fall, and has won several awards, including a WisDOT design award, Wisconsin Chapter Public Works Project of the Year, and WisDOT Outstanding Highway Construction Award.  Phase II of the project will occur in 2012 and phase 3 in 2013.

All in all, the City of Monona has a thriving marketplace.  We encourage you to check it out.
