The construction of a new 345-kW transmission line by American Transmission Company from the Rockdale Substation to the West Middleton Substation will begin in late fall 2011. The line will span approximately 9 miles along Hwy. 12/18 from the Beltline/I-39 interchange to Verona Road, including a portion in the City of Monona. The tentative construction schedule is as follows:
Right-of-way clearing: Nov. 7, 2011-May 25, 2012:
All trees and woody vegetation will be cleared to the full easement width
Foundations: Nov. 28, 2011-June 29, 2012:
Contractors will dig holes and install foundations
Structure setting: Jan. 13-Feb. 10, 2012- and April 9-July 13, 2012:
Contractors will set galvanized steel, single-pole structures in place for a majority of Segment C. Y-frame structures will be used along the Beltline near the UW Arboretum.
Yahara Wetlands structure setting: Jan. 29-Feb. 5, 2012:
Contractors will use a helicopter to set galvanized steel, H-frame structures in place. The use of helicopters to set structures in the Yahara Wetlands will minimize environmental impact to the area. Flight times are limited and may yary due to weather.
Conductor and OPGW stringing: Feb. 12-Aug. 10, 2012:
Contractors will string conductor and optical ground wire on Segment C structures. Contractors will use a helicopter to string wires on structures in the Yahara Wetlands. Flight times are limited and may vary due to weather.
Restoration: May 1-Aug. 10, 2012:
Contractors will conclude all right-of-way restoration, including any remaining grading work and reseeding
