Yard Waste Drop-Off Site Closes for 2011 Season Dec. 21
Monona operates a yard waste drop-off site for leaves and grass clippings. The site is open 24 hours a day from spring until winter and is located on Edna Taylor Parkway, between Broadway and Femrite Drive at the Public Works Garage. The site will close for the 2011 season on Dec. 21 and will re-open in Spring (check back for the exact date). The Yard Waste Site does not accept brush, but the City offers a free brush collection service (see below).
2011 Brush Collection
The City of Monona contracts with Johnson Tree Service to offer free brush collection 4 times per year (between April and November) for residents. The City's collection program for 2011 is now complete. Please check back for collection dates for 2012.
Residents should place their brush at the curb by 7:00 am on Monday of their district's collection week. Once the collection for a street is completed, crews will not return until the next scheduled pick-up week. The free collection is for brush trimmed by the homeowner only. City ordinance states that collection is not available for brush trimmed by a private contractor. Brush generated by a private contractor is to be disposed of by the contractor.
Residents should be sure to keep brush separate from other refuse at the curb. Tree roots, stumps, and logs cannot be collected. Limbs should not exceed six (6) inches in diameter and ten (10) feet in length. Thorny brush should be piled separately so as to minimize injury to collection personnel.
Monona residents may also drop brush at Second Season Recycling's Yard Waste Site, located at 2159 Range Trail in Verona (phone 608-848-4400). The fee for this site is $25/ton (approximately $5 for a pick-up truck load). Please note that the Bruce Company Facility on Meier Rd. is no longer available for brush drop-off.
