Monona Farmers' Market

Sunday, October 8, 2017

Fall colors are everywhere at the Monona Farmers’ Market!

Fall colors are everywhere at the Monona Farmers’ Market, even in cauliflower.  You’ll find purple, orange and white cauliflower at Nehmer’s Produce and Greenhouse. For a great side dish try roasting this versatile vegetable, seasonings bring out the delicious flavor.

Roasted Cauliflower
1 medium-large head, cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices
Extra virgin olive oil, to coat
Sea salt
Coarsely ground black pepper

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place cauliflower in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle olive oil to coat (a couple of tablespoons). Season generously with salt and pepper and toss gently until evenly coated.  Lay cauliflower pieces on a baking sheet. Drizzle remaining oil from the bowl on top. Bake, turning once, until caramelized on edges and tender, 25 to 30 minutes.

It’s not too early to do some holiday shopping. Stop by Nina’s Dairy Goats for handmade candles, soaps, lotions, lip balm and scrubbies. Culinary treats make great gifts too.  Select jams, relishes and pickles, maple syrup, honey or a bottle of sunflower oil.

Josh Cohen, composer and bassist from Toronto, Canada, is this week’s entertainer. He plays jazz, funk, pop, and classical.  Cohen strives to connect his musical inspiration with the inspiration one can receive from exploring nature.
