Monona News Update 3/8-3/15

This is the Monona News for the second week of March.
 
 Last Monday, the Monona City Council he at the Monona Public Library.  There were no new items on the agenda, and the whole meeting lasted an hour.  The main item, involved a presentation and discussion on the sale of municipal bonds for the 2010 capital budget.  The council approved this sale, and also refinanced about 2 million dollars of other bonds to get a better rate.  The use of these funds was approved in January for both 2010 and 2011 capital projects, including new water mains and city vehicles.  The only other item on the agenda was approval of the Hazard Mitigation Plan.  The City needs to submit a plan to participate in some some programs with the county.  If you would like to watch the meeting, you can watch for the rebroadcast here on Monona Community Cable, or head over to mononatv.com to watch on your computer.
 
 We have an update for you to a story form last week.  The Monona Grove School Board has decided to move both March meetings from the library to the cafeteria of Winnequah School to handle a larger crowd.  Both meetings have important items on the agenda.  At the March 10th the board is expected to make a decision regarding moving 6th graders from Winnequah to Glacial Drumlin.  On March 24th, the board will choose the cuts from next year's budget including a possible merger of Maywood and Winnequah.  Monona Cable will record both meetings, but may not be able to air them live. Regardless of a live broadcast, both meetings will air again beginning Thursdays at noon.
 
As the local election date nears, we'd like to reminder you of the Candidate Forums this month.  Monona Community Cable will sponsor 2 forums on the 21st for the upcoming April election.  The Council Forum will run from 4 to 6 in the Media room of the Library, and the School Board Forum will run from 7 to 9 in the High School IMC.  Both forums will be moderated by the League of Women Voters, and questions from the audience will be accepted. 

 In other news, we'd like to let you know about some fun and helpful events in the next month.  If you are a senior and would like help on you taxes, the Senior Center has 2 more AARP tax clinics.  The first is this Wednesday, March 10th and the second is Wednesday March 24th.  Both clinics run from 8:30 to 11:30 at the Senior Center.  Call 222-3415 to schedule an appointment.
 
 Anyone who would like help learning the new Windows 7 computer system, is invited to a training session sponsored by the Monona Chamber of Commerce.  The chamber will hold the training session at the East Side Club on Thursday March 25th from 8 to 9 am. The event is free and open to the public, but you need to register ahead of time by calling 222-8565 or by  emailing chamber@monona.com 
 
 Last, and best of all, the dates for this year's musical have been announced. The High School Drama Club will perform "All Shook Up," April 8th through the 11th.  All Shook Up is based on Shakespeare's 12th night, with musical numbers of the 1950s and 60s including many Elvis Presley hits.  Shows start at 7:30 Thursday through Saturday, and two matinees start at 2:00 on Saturday and Sunday.  If you would like to reserve tickets, call 221-7666 extension 5229.
