On September 3, 2021 the Monona Fire Department was notified that we were awarded a 2020 AFG project that has been many years in the making. For the last several years, your Monona Fire Department had applied to this competitive grant program to replace our obsolete Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), only to be turned down every time. This year, our grant was strong, our need was high, and FEMA agreed.
Thanks to the very hard work of our membership, our city staff, as well as local, state and federal representatives, your Monona Fire Department was awarded over $200,000.00 in federal money to replace our outdated equipment. The City of Monona match for this project is just over $10,000.00. For the cost of just two SCBA, the city sees over 30 SCBA’s, air bottles, harnesses and face pieces for the entire department.

The Monona Fire Department is a combination fire and EMS provider made up of full-time firefighter/paramedics, part time firefighter/paramedics, and a strong core of over 35 fully trained volunteer firefighters and EMT’s.
