Open Book is your chance to meet face-to-face with an assessor and explain why you think your property’s assessment is too low or too high. This is a more informal process, and many discrepancies are resolved this way. The 2016 dates for Open Book appointments are:
Monday, April 24, 2017 from noon to 7 p.m.
Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Property owners need to schedule an appointment during one of the above time frames. Appointments are at City Hall (5211 Schluter Rd.) and can be scheduled online or by phone at 1-800-770-3927. This information is also included with your assessment letter.
If you are dissatisfied with the results you receive from Open Book, your next step is to attend the Board of Review. The Board of Review is scheduled to meet at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Municipal Room at the Monona Library. Written or oral notice of intent to file an objection to the Board of Review is due to the City Clerk at least 48 hours before the Board of Review’s first scheduled meeting. Your written objection form (available from the Clerk) must be filed with the Clerk during the first 2 hours of the Board of Review’s first scheduled meeting, but can be filed prior to that time.
