Boards, Commissions, & Committees

  1. Board of Review

    The Board of Review is a quasi-jucicial body which hears property assessment appeals.

  2. Community Media Committee

    The Committee Media Committee governs the community cable channel and radio station.

  3. Community Development Authority

    The CDA is a separate political authority which acts as the City's agent in planning and carrying out community development programs and activities.

  4. Distinguished Service Award Committee

    The Distinguished Service Award Committee meets annually to select individuals to receive the City's Distinguished Service Award.

  5. Facilities Committee

    The Facilities Committee, comprised of members with experience in construction, design, and architecture, reviews all facility-related City projects.

  6. Finance & Personnel Committee

    The Finance and Personnel Committee reviews all personnel-related issues and all issues which have a fiscal impact on the City.

  7. Landmarks Commission

    The Landmarks Commission works for historic landmark preservation in Monona.

  8. License Review Committee

    The License Review Committee reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council for all applications relating to fermented malt beverages and intoxicating liquor, mobile homes, and massage establishments.

  9. Library Board of Trustees

    The Library Board is a semi-autonomous body of seven persons empowered by state law and city ordinance to act as the governing body of the library.

  10. Mass Transit Commission

    The Mass Transit Commission develops and recommends to the City Council policies on the various elements of public transportation and transportation facilities.

  11. Parks & Recreation Board

    The Park and Recreation Board reviews and recommends policies to the City Council that are necessary for the management of city parks and recreation facilities.

  12. Plan Commission

    The commission reviews applications for zoning permits for all districts except the single-family residence district and the two-family residence district.

  13. Police & Fire Commission

    The Police and Fire Commission has jurisdiction with regard to the hiring, firing, disciplining, or promotion of personnel in the Police and Fire Departments.

  14. Public Safety Committee

    The Public Safety Committee reviews and recommends ordinances affecting public safety to the City Council.

  15. Public Works Committee

    The Public Works Committee has the duty, under the direction of the City Council, to superintend the construction and maintenance of streets, alleys, sidewalks, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water system, and other public works projects.

  16. Senior Citizens Commission

    The Senior Citizen Commission investigates the needs of senior citizens, develops programs and services specifically to serve senior citizens, and provides public information regarding senior citizens' programs and services.

  17. Sustainability Committee

    The Sustainability Committee guides and assists Monona’s government, residents, and businesses in becoming a community that meets the needs of the present without compromising the resources available for future generations.

  18. Zoning Board of Appeals

    The Board of Appeals assists the zoning administrator in making interpretations; hears appeals for any person that is aggrieved by a decision of the zoning administrator and passes judgement on that appeal; and approves alternate methods of construction and materials.
